Privacy policy
This policy explains how Units Converter (unitsconverter.com) handles personal information. The site is published by LETAYER LLC ("we", "us"), the controller of the personal information described here. It has no accounts, no sign-up and no analytics of its own.
Summary
- What you type into a calculator stays in your browser. Numbers, dates, lists and recipes are processed by JavaScript on your device and are never sent to us.
- Ads are served by Google AdSense, which may use cookies and similar technologies. Where the law requires consent, you are asked first, and you can change your choice at any time.
- We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies may count as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some US state laws; you can opt out as explained below.
Information we handle
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request data: IP address, browser type, page requested, referring page and time. We use it to deliver pages, keep the site secure and fix errors, and keep it for no more than 30 days unless it is needed to investigate an attack.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we receive your address and message. We use them only to answer and to record corrections, and delete them within 24 months of the last exchange.
- Advertising data collected by Google. When ads are shown, Google and its partners may collect device identifiers, cookie IDs, IP address, approximate location and browsing activity on this and other sites. Google is responsible for this data under its own privacy policy; see the next section.
We do not ask for, and do not knowingly receive, sensitive information such as health, financial account or government ID data.
Advertising by Google
The site shows ads served by Google AdSense. In connection with those ads:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info and, in Europe, atyouronlinechoices.eu.
Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads atHow Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services, and lists the ad technology providers it works with in Europe on its ad technology providers page. Details about cookies are on our cookies and ads page.
Consent and your choices
- EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland: before personalized ads or the related cookies are used, a consent message from Google's consent management platform, certified under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, asks for your choices. Without consent, Google may still show non-personalized ads, which use cookies only for purposes such as frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement.
- US states with privacy laws: a message lets you opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out everywhere and ask Google to show only non-personalized ads on your visit.
- You can reopen your consent choices from the privacy settings link that the consent message adds to our pages (it is not shown on this page or the cookie page, which load no advertising code), and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Why we may process your information (legal bases)
Where the GDPR, the UK GDPR or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection apply:
- Personalized advertising and non-essential cookies: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Server logs and security: our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website.
- Answering your email: our legitimate interest in replying, or steps you ask for before any agreement.
- Keeping records the law requires: legal obligation.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and our providers, including Google, may process information in the United States and other countries. Where European, UK or Swiss law applies, transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK Addendum and, where the recipient is certified, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- object to or restrict its use, and receive it in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing;
- opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising (US states);
- not be treated differently for exercising these rights.
To use a right, email us at contact@letayer.llc. We answer within the time the applicable law sets (for example one month under the GDPR, 45 days under California law). We may need to confirm your request comes from you; because we hold so little, we often have nothing linked to a person. For advertising data held by Google, use Google's own tools as well.
You can also complain to a regulator:
- EEA: the data protection authority of your country.
- United Kingdom: the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
- Switzerland: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
- Canada: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, under PIPEDA, or your provincial commissioner.
- Japan: the Personal Information Protection Commission, under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information.
- Australia: the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.
- United States: your state attorney general or, in California, the California Privacy Protection Agency.
Notes for specific places
- United States (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and other states with comprehensive privacy laws): in the last 12 months the categories of personal information collected through this site were identifiers (IP address, cookie IDs) and internet activity, used for the purposes above. They may be disclosed to Google for advertising, which some laws treat as sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information, and we do not knowingly sell or share the information of people under 16.
- Canada: by using the site after any consent message, you consent to the uses described here; you may withdraw consent as explained above. Our privacy contact is listed at the end of this policy.
- Japan: advertising cookie information is provided to Google, which may link it to other information it holds; Google's cookie use is described on the pages linked above. Information may be handled in the United States, whose privacy framework differs from Japan's.
- Australia: you can deal with us anonymously; the calculators never ask who you are. Information may be held overseas, mainly in the United States.
Security and retention
The site is served over encrypted connections in production, and only a small number of people can reach the hosting and email accounts. We keep personal information only for the periods stated above.
Children
The site is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and the UK). We do not knowingly collect their personal information; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
Pages link to standards bodies, government websites and other sources. Their privacy practices are their own.
